Learning start date
The date the learner actually started the aim. For apprenticeships, it fixes which year's funding rules apply.

The learning start date is the date the learner began the aim. For apprenticeships it determines which year's funding rules apply; for the Adult Skills Fund and 16 to 19 funding, continuing learners follow the rules for the year of delivery. It is the anchor for the qualifying period, the planned end date and the funding profile.
It records what happened, not what was planned. A start date moved to make a record work is a data-integrity problem and an audit risk.

An Employment status record has not been returned that applies prior to the Learning start date
If the Learning aim start date is on or after 1 August 2014 and the provision is 16-19 non-apprenticeship and the total of the Planned learning hours and the Planned employability, enrichment and pastoral hours is less than 540, there must be an applicable Employment status record that applies before the learners start date.
