Accessibility statement
We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. This statement says what we have tested, what we have not, and how to tell us about a problem.
Last updated: 11 October 2026
Our aim
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. You should be able to use the site with a keyboard alone, zoom text without content being cut off, use it on a narrow screen without scrolling sideways, and choose a light or dark theme.
What we have tested
- Automated checks with axe-core, against WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 at levels A and AA, run on every change in a Chromium browser. They cover the home page, the main Academy page types and several of the tools, in both themes and at a phone-sized width.
- Problems those checks found, including colour contrast, heading order and sideways scrolling at narrow widths, have been fixed.
What we have not yet tested
- Manual testing with a screen reader, such as NVDA on Windows or VoiceOver on macOS and iOS, has not yet been carried out.
- A full manual keyboard-only check of every page has not yet been recorded.
- Automated testing runs in Chromium only. Firefox and Safari have not been checked systematically.
- Not every page and tool on the site is included in the automated checks.
- The site has not been audited by an independent accessibility specialist.
Automated checks find only some accessibility problems, so there will be issues we have not found yet. We will update this statement as testing is completed.
Known limitations
- Some wide data tables need to be scrolled sideways within the table on small screens.
- Downloadable PDF documents, such as the ILR Lens guides, have not been checked for accessibility.
- ILR Lens is a Windows application; this statement covers the website only.
Reading settings in the Academy
The Academy lets you change text size, line spacing and other reading settings. See Academy reading settings.
