Completion element
The 20% of apprenticeship funding held back and paid when the apprentice completes.
In full
20% of the total negotiated price, or of the funding band maximum if lower, is not paid monthly but is held until the apprentice has completed all their learning and all parts of the end-point assessment. The apprentice does not need to pass, and the payment is not tied to the cost of assessment (apprenticeship funding rules 2026 to 2027, paragraph 190).
This is why late or missing completion recording has a direct and often substantial cash effect, not just a performance one.
