ILR XML file

The file format in which the ILR is submitted.

In full

The ILR is submitted as an XML file conforming to the specification for the funding year. It is generated by the student record system rather than written by hand.

Editing the file directly is a false economy: the change is lost at the next generation and the source system stays wrong.

The rules behind this

Recommended good practice

Corrections should be made in the source system that owns the data, then regenerated into the ILR. Editing an ILR file directly leaves the source system wrong and the error returns at the next generation.
