Clawback

The recovery of funding that was paid but not properly earned or not properly evidenced.

In full

Clawback is the recovery of funding a provider has received but is not entitled to keep, whether because delivery fell short of the allocation, because a claim was incorrect, or because it cannot be evidenced.

The best protection against it is boring: accurate data, timely recording, and evidence held as you go rather than assembled afterwards.
